Art Class for Kids in Toronto

Fun, Hands-On Art Classes for Young Artists in Midtown Toronto

At SimSim Art Lab, our kids' art classes in Toronto are all about getting little hands busy and big imaginations going.

Children paint, draw, sculpt, build, mix, experiment, and create with all kinds of art materials. Some days they might be covered in paint. Other days they might be shaping clay, exploring textures, or turning a simple idea into something completely their own.

There’s no pressure to make every artwork look the same. Instead, we guide children through creative projects while giving them plenty of room to make choices, try something new, and discover what they can do.

Because at this age, it’s not just about what they make. It’s about the little moments of discovery that happen while they’re making it.

And sometimes, the best part is simply hearing:

“Look what I made!”

Art Classes Where Kids Actually Get to Create

Some children walk into an art class knowing exactly what they want to make. Others see a table full of art materials and immediately want to touch everything. Both are welcome here.

At SimSim Art Lab, children explore art through hands-on projects that encourage them to experiment, make choices, and discover their own creative ideas. We introduce new materials, techniques, colours, and textures, while giving children plenty of room to make each project their own.

A child might start with a simple painting and suddenly decide to add a completely unexpected colour. They might turn a piece of clay into a tiny creature or mix materials that weren't originally part of the plan. That's part of the fun.

What Will My Child Actually Do?

Every class is different, but one thing stays the same: children are making things.

Depending on the project, they may:

  • Paint, draw, and explore colour
  • Create collages and mixed-media artwork
  • Experiment with textures and different materials
  • Build, decorate, cut, glue, and transform
  • Try new art materials and creative techniques
  • Make their own choices throughout the project
  • Take home something they created themselves
Two children can start with the same materials and end up with completely different creations.
And that's exactly how it should be.

Why Parents Choose SimSim Art Lab

We know parents are looking for more than something to fill an hour. You want a class your child will enjoy, a teacher who understands young children, and a space where they feel comfortable.

Our classes are:

Designed for young children

Projects are thoughtfully planned for little hands, developing attention spans, and different stages of creativity.

Hands-on and engaging

Children spend their time creating, experimenting, and exploring rather than sitting through long demonstrations.

Small and personal

Smaller groups allow us to give each child encouragement, guidance, and attention.

Full of variety

Children explore different materials, techniques, and creative ideas throughout the season, so there is always something new to discover.

Led by an experienced children's art educator

With more than 14 years of experience working with children through art and creative activities, we know how to keep young artists engaged while helping them feel confident.

What Makes Our Classes Different?

We don't believe young children need to create perfect artwork.

They need the freedom to try.

Our classes are guided, but not overly structured. We introduce the project, demonstrate techniques, and help children get started, while leaving room for their own ideas.

Maybe the tree becomes purple.

Maybe the clay turns into a funny little creature.

Maybe they change their entire idea halfway through.

That's part of the fun. There isn't one "right" way to be creative.

We want children to leave feeling proud of what they made and excited about what they discovered along the way.

Weekend spots fill up quickly, especially in spring and fall. Booking 2 to 3 weeks in advance is recommended.

What Parents Are Saying About SimSim Art Lab

1What ages are your art classes for?
Our regular children's art classes are primarily designed for children ages 3 to 6, with some programs accommodating different age ranges depending on the class. The age range is always listed on the individual class before registration.
2Does my child need previous art experience?
Not at all. Your child doesn't need to know how to draw, paint, or consider themselves "artistic" before joining us. Our classes are designed for children with different personalities, interests, and levels of experience.
3What will my child do in an art class?
Projects vary from class to class and season to season. Children may explore painting, drawing, clay, collage, mixed media, textures, and other creative materials. We like keeping things fresh, so there is always something new to discover.
4How long is each class?
Class length depends on the program. Our shorter series include 1-hour classes, while our full 12-class program includes 1.5-hour sessions.
5Are art supplies included?
Yes! All materials are included. You just bring your child and their imagination.
6Is this a structured art class or free play?
A little bit of both. Each class has a planned creative project and guided instruction, but children are encouraged to make choices and explore their own ideas rather than simply copying a finished example.
7Will my child bring their artwork home?
Yes! Children create their own artwork during class and, whenever the project allows, take their creations home to share with their families.
8What if my child is shy?
That's completely okay. Some children jump into the activity immediately, while others like to watch for a few minutes first. We give children time to feel comfortable and encourage them without putting them on the spot.
9Where are the art classes located?
Our classes take place at SimSim Art Lab in Midtown Toronto, in the Forest Hill Village area.
